You know how we always thought Europeans are more laid back, and have a much slower pace in life? We were wrong.
I’ve been here for a little over a week now, and have met so many students from all over Europe as well as the rest of the world. They are a bunch of great people, and I’m already excited to spend the next 7 or 12 months with them! In fact, the whole city of Barcelona is a hodgepodge of international people, I feel right at home.
One special “lad” that requires mentioning is Conor, the Irish boy. He is as Irish as you can imagine, and I simply love the way he talks. Has to be one of the funniest people I know. We decided to call him Papa Conor (Papa meaning the Pope in Italian), because when we go out together, he seem to know EVERYONE, and he hasn’t even been here over a week! Every step, he stops to hug, kiss, or chat with someone, just like the Pope stops and blesses someone every step. Very glad he is going to Portugal with me in 7 months. He definitely adds a very vibrant color to our group, and I’m not even talking about his bright red hair.
Talking about going out, the Europeans party like there is no tomorrow. Here is the time table for a typical night out:
9:00pm – 11:00pm: Dinner and drinks at home.
11:00pm – 1:30 or 2:00am: Head out, meet friends at a bar, drink some more.
2:00am – 5:00am: Dancing at the club.
5:30am: Take the first subway home, have breakfast, and go to bed.
After I have finally gotten used to walking all day, they throw in dancing for hours at night. My feet are facing another serious challenge. Good thing school hasn’t started, but they tell me they do this often even during school, mostly over the weekend of course.
AHHH! Really wish internet will be installed soon so I can start uploading pictures…
Love,
Claire

P.S. – We will have internet starting Monday the 13th! Woohoo!

  1. What an awesome schedule! Seems a lot of the Berkeley kids are really intense… a friend named Eric finished his homework the day it was available, and we hadn't even learned it in class yet! However, we still have time to go out on the weekends! (for now at least ^^)
