Five years ago today, we brought home a tiny little fur ball. She had been living under the house of a friend, who knew I had been thinking about adopting a feline baby. She was so tiny and fluffy, and had eyes that could melt your heart when she looked up at you with a tilted head.

Five years later, she has developed a foot fetish, a sweet but cautiously friendly personality, a reluctant acceptance to corporal cuddling, the skill to sit on command, and a demanding love for leafy greens and corn. Not only did she grow to fill my sink, she also filled my heart. Despite all that hard work, she managed to stay just as fluffy and cute.

She keeps me warm in the rare cold days of Houston. She makes a super comfy pillow for a whole 5 seconds that she allows it. She makes me laugh with her failed jump attempts, and even more when she walks away nonchalantly as if nothing has happened. I never knew a cat can be so expressive! She keeps me company while I’m working, reading, eating, or doing yoga. And she welcomes us home with more enthusiasm than the feline code of conduct permits.

I haven’t written much about her on this blog. But if you followed my Instagram, you would know that when I’m not traveling, she dominates my IG. I mean, the internet obviously needs more cat photos, right? I might be biased, but I think she’s extremely photogenic. And yes, I think she deserves to be posted on Cats of Instagram for the whole world to admire. Just look at that face and try to not “aww”, I dare you. And I have definitely gotten better as a cat photographer over the years. I would show you all the photos but I fear for a cuteness overload.

Happy Five Years, Cotton Candy! We cannot imagine life without you.

Love,

C.
